WooCommerce: Post Revenue by Product Category or Item Name

Here we discuss how Bookkeep enables you to post gross sales and refunds by Product Category or Item Name

When completing a journal entry mapping we have categories and subcategories. Categories are required to be mapped or else the journal entry will fail to post to accounting. See below for an example showing Gross sales as the category and the subcategories beneath it:

The subcategories can be located for a specific journal entry line by clicking the caret on the right as shown below. If this caret is not present that means this line does not have any subcategories:

The subcategories are optional to be mapped. In the case of the WooCommerce Summary, we offer the Product Categories or Item Name from WooCommerce as subcategories for Gross Sales and Returns. This means that you have the option to break down sales and returns by product categories or item names precisely like in WooCommerce.

If you don't have accounts set up in your accounting platform, click on the magic wand button to the right as shown below which is visible per line. This will create an account in your accounting platform and map that line to this newly created account.

Once this account is created and mapped, the gross sales will be posted to the account in your accounting platform. Returns or refunds can be similarly mapped and posted to the same product category or item name accounts to give you insight into product performance.

The default posting method for WooCommerce is by product category. However, if you would like to change this rollup to per item name, visit the connections page and app tab. From here, locate the WooCommerce connection and expand the setup to locate "Configure" as shown below. When clicking "Configure," this will open a modal to change the "Rollup Method."

Below is the view with the Rollup Method option where you can select Product Category (default) or Item Name which will impact the subcategories for gross sales and refunds as discussed above:
